On USA TODAY on December 7th 2014, pastor Steven Anderson is seen in a video in his church stating the following,
“No homos will ever be allowed in this church as long as I’m pastor….. NEVER!!!!”
He was then asked on USA TODAY,
Host: So you Hate Gay People
Steven Anderson: “Yes”
Steven then goes on to read out Leviticus stating that, “if a man lay with a man surely, they should be put to death, and that should be a government regulated capital crime”.
Further when questioned about how Steven thinks people become gay he answers,
“Well, the bible is real clear on how it happens in Romans chapter 1, it talks about how God gives people over to a reprobate mind to do these filthy acts. So it has to do with them rejecting the lord and rejecting Jesus Christ”.
Next question,
Host: So anyone who is not a heterosexual should die yes?
Steven Anderson: “Absolutely of course, that’s what the bible says”
To confirm this is precisely what Stephen Anderson is teaching, lets look at some absolute comments made in a sermon on the 27th of January 2021 titled “To Late Reprobate”
Reprobates cannot be saved
Reprobates cannot believe in Christ
Are all homos reprobates, I say yes.
Steven Anderson gets one thing “and only 1 thing” right on this topic, a homosexual does not meet the criteria required to regularly attend church, however that’s where it ends. Let’s just state for the record that doctrine that Homosexuals are beyond salvation
and should be killed is probably one of the most disgusting and dangerous doctrines to be taught in Christianity. It is so bad and such an important topic that I think it undermines the very message of Salvation for all. Sometimes the most common and well-known verses are overlooked by such pastors who make these doctrines.
- John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting lifeWhosoever in Greek (g3956) means: each, every ,any ,all ,the whole, everyone, all things, everything. If God wants to tell us all can be saved, what other words does he need to use? The bible uses the same word (g3956) for the word all in the following verse,
- 1 Timothy 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth
Reader, Christ wants each and every person to come to salvation, including gay or homosexual people. He loves them and rejects their sin, it is that simple.
Typically, with topics of doctrine, especially those that are based on just 1 or two passages in the bible one must be very careful that the position they are taking does not conflict with any other verse in the bible. In this particular case the pastor here has failed miserably. Let’s look at some bible verses that are very troublesome for this pastors position.
Should we hate Homosexuals?
- 1 Peter 2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king
- 1 Timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men.
Answer: NO, the bible is clear, we are to hate the sin, love the person, pray for them that they would repent from their disbelief in God and become saved.
Should Homosexuals be Killed?
I find this assertion by this pastor to be ridiculous. There is a clear malicious intent here that seems to be motivated by a desire to hate. If anyone would like to take the view that
a homosexual needs to be killed for their sin, let’s take a look at some other sins that were punishable by death in the Old Testament.
- Sabbath Breaking
- False Prophecy
- Blasphemy
- Robbery & Larceny
- Dishonour to Parents by words
I don’t see this pastor making claims that anyone who calls their parent a curse word should be put to death. My question is, why not?
Conclusion
Fellow Christian, There is no person alive today beyond Christ’s grace. To teach otherwise goes against hundreds of verses in his word. He would have that right up until each of our deaths that we would be saved regardless of our sin. There is no basis to any physical penalty for homosexuality today. It is like other sin, if the person rejects Christ they will pay the price in hell the same of the thief or liar. There is no position for these positions of hate amongst gods children.
