Wife’s, we encourage you to read the Husband page before you read the below. Many husbands misuse their authority, and we would like to make sure you understand his responsibilities and his role before you understand yours.
Taking your role as a Godly wife can be the most rewarding thing you can do on this earth. He made you to be a biblical wife, and you will feel the most rewarded and valued when you are assuming your Godly role.
Partner selection is equally important for the husband and the wife; however it is of critical importance that you select a man who submits himself to the Lord and accepts his role according to the word of God. Your position as a Godly wife is one of vulnerability, you are placing your life in your husbands’ hands.
Your role as a Godly wife is clear, you have been created for man that he should not be alone, and you are to be a help meet for him and his goals in life. You have been given a spiritual leader in your husband as you are the weaker vessel. This is important as the weaker vessel is often attacked first by Satan.
You are equally valued as a man, both in the marriage and to God. Do not let anyone tell you that because you submit to your husband, that makes you less valuable than him. You have a different role to your husband, not a different value.
Surprisingly, the model of the wife and her role in marriage is detailed in the bible to a greater degree than the husband. Proverbs 31 gives us what value the Godly Wife offers the husband and family, and it is an excellent target for a woman to work towards.
Proverbs 31:10-27
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Note that the bible calls for a Godly Wife to be one that trades, works, owns property and is involved in physical labor. It is a fallacy to think or teach that the man gets to make all the big decisions and the woman sits at home being nothing more than a childcare center. The husband is to empower the wife to take part in all these things, or even do them alone as he sees appropriate.
God is in control! As a wife you have a tall order to fulfill, the bible promises you hard work and submission to your husband in all things. It will be the most rewarding experience possible if you allow God’s word to lead you in your choices in being a Godly Wife.
